Milometry vs AutoLogg

The short version

AutoLogg is an elektronisches Fahrtenbuch. Milometry is a mileage tracker. Those sound like the same product and in German tax terms they are not, so the honest answer depends entirely on which of two jobs you are doing.

If you need a Fahrtenbuch that the Finanzamt will accept for a company car, buy AutoLogg and not us. If you are claiming business kilometres in your own car at the published rate, a Fahrtenbuch is more machinery than the job needs.

Why a phone app cannot be a Fahrtenbuch

An electronic Fahrtenbuch is only accepted if later changes are technically impossible or fully documented, the record is complete and prompt, and it survives ten years under the GoBD. Apps you can edit afterwards without leaving a trace are rejected.

Milometry keeps your trips on your phone and lets you edit them. Everywhere else that is the point. In Germany, for that specific use, it is the reason we do not qualify, and we would rather write that down than let somebody find out during a Betriebsprüfung.

AutoLogg is built for this, in Germany and Austria, and says finanzamtkonform on every tier.

What AutoLogg does well

It is the cheap way to be compliant. From 12,50 € a month plus VAT, it is substantially less than the hardware led alternatives, and compliance is on every plan rather than reserved for a higher tier.

Hardware is optional. Their own device exists but is not forced on you, which gives you a choice the dongle first products do not.

Austria as well as Germany. If you cross that border for work, one product covers both.

What it costs

Basic from 12,50 € a month plus VAT. Pro from 17 € a month plus VAT. Enterprise on request. All prices exclude the statutory VAT.

Basic works out around 178 € a year with VAT. Against a compliance requirement that is reasonable. Against "I want to remember how far I drove", it is a great deal of product.

Where we think we are the better fit

For an employee or freelancer claiming Reisekosten in their own car, the question is not whether a Prüfer will accept a tamper proof logbook. It is whether you can be bothered to write down every trip, and the answer is usually no.

Milometry is a single payment. It notices you drove, records the route, and totals the kilometres at the German rate. It also tracks fuel, so a journey can be costed against your real consumption rather than a brochure figure. There is no account and no server, so the record of where you have driven never leaves your phone.

One payment, against 178 € every year, is a different proposition for a different problem.

Which one you should pick

Pick AutoLogg if you need a finanzamtkonform Fahrtenbuch, especially if you want one without committing to hardware, or if you drive in both Germany and Austria.

Pick Milometry if you drive your own car, claim kilometres at the published rate, and want that recorded properly for a single payment.
